Bio: highly touted as the Red Sox top prospect before getting to the big leagues last season. He took over a rotation spot and kept it before being sidelined at the end of the year after being diagnosed with cancer in his throwing arm. Since then Lester has conquered his cancer and looks to continue his pitching career this season. When the Sox had Jonathan Papelbon in the rotation, Lester was the odd man out. Since now Paps is back in the closers role, I think that Jon Lester will be ready to enter the rotation in May, even though Julian Tavarez is going to be able to start the season in that role. Originally Lester was suppose to spend the season in AAA, and probably make some spot starts because of injuries, but now he's destined to have his own spot in the rotation, and that's the way it should be.

Projected 2007 Statistics: 11-5, 4.75, 165, 150

Fantasy Outlook: the projected stats above are based on probably 25 starts, which would mean he'd probably be ready to come back and enter the rotation in May. The team is going to be cautious, and if Julian Tavarez is tossing the ball well, Lester may not get into the rotation until later. But, I think eventually he will, so he now has a pretty fair amount of fantasy value. I'd take Jon Lester over most of the fifth starters there are in the majors today, and those are the guys he'd be going against. He should be able to win a good amount of games for the club this season.
